George had a record breaking total of 16 points.

2007 Top Scorers:

1. George Gallucci - 16 points
2. John Cashman - 9 points
3. Keith Kaplan - 8 points
4. Chris Oakley - 6 points
5. Bryan Ellenberg - 5 points
13. David Wood - 2 frigging points

11 Contestants won the Good Karma Award with NO points.

2007 highlights included the surprise death of Anna Nicole (although three ghoulers had her on their list) and the non deaths of Ariel Sharon and Fidel Castro. My favorite die-fecta pick of the year went to John Maddox for his choice of Ariel Sharon and Sharon Stone. She joins former co star Charles Nelson Reilly in game show heaven. This would have been a dandy die-fecta, but alas, no one thought of it. HOWEVER, John Cashman had the forethought to pair Jane Wyman and Lady Bird Johnson (woman married to men who were Presidents) for the second die-fecta hit of the year.

George Galluci still leads with 9 points, but the husband and wife team of Keith Kaplan and John Cashman are close behind with 8 points each.
Woodyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00410209790354773553noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9003555636371305221.post-36645328837730886342007-09-06T15:46:00.001-07:002008-11-05T12:16:51.389-08:00The Best of Three (Tenors) Dies at 71
I think Luciano Pavarotti was a tenor, although anything I know about opera I learned watching the Marx Brothers in “A Night At The Opera” co-starring Kitty Carlisle who is also newly dead. Or was that the 80's? Who can remember all those celebrity scandals? Luckily with the likes of Paris and Lindsay they are making new ones everyday. Five of you picked up two points for Tammy, catapulting Bryan Ellenberg and Chris Oakley into a two way tie for first place. (In retrospect, Tammy should have been one point due to her pre-existing condition, but as they say, that's death!)

Chris Oakley's pick of Homer Bedloe (aka Charles Lane) was a perfect example of picking up points off the beaten (Hooterville) track. Chris was the only one with the foresight to pick the lovable curmudgeon.

Too many of you had The Lady Bird.Woodyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00410209790354773553noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9003555636371305221.post-29261911985889421512007-07-03T15:27:00.000-07:002007-07-03T15:31:43.434-07:00Beverly Hills is Dead!Emily, that's Beverly Sills - Not Beverly Hills. Nevermind. Well anyway, she's dead. So is Liz Claiborne. Nobody had either of them, so their deaths were both in vain.Woodyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00410209790354773553noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9003555636371305221.post-52004124469838500452007-05-15T16:10:00.000-07:002007-05-15T16:18:56.991-07:00I'll Take Dead Evangilists for 100...
Congratulations to Scott Schwimer for having Larry Flynt pal Jerry Falwell – LAST year. So that’s NO points for you Scottie! Or anyone else for that matter. But give a point to Gary Tomlin for having Newhart co-star/Suzanne Pleshette hubby Tom Poston. Tom was 83 and was worth a point. Other recent passings include astronaut Wally Schirra and bandleader Tommy Newsom. Like a Gemini capsule coming in off course, they were both off of everybody’s radar.
Woodyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00410209790354773553noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9003555636371305221.post-69231138866632029472007-04-19T15:08:00.000-07:002007-04-19T15:40:08.578-07:00Will the real Kitty Carlisle please lie down...Kitty Carlisle, an honest to God star of stage, screen and tv passed away in New York yesterday at 96 due to complications of pneumonia. i.e. old age. As evidenced by the accompanying picture, we should all look so good at 94. Due to her age, she was only given one point, which has been given to 4 lucky contestants: Keith Kaplan, Michael Lee, Michael Strand and Gary Tomlin.Woodyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00410209790354773553noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9003555636371305221.post-87098675050854729232007-04-15T11:21:00.000-07:002007-04-15T11:42:36.346-07:00Don Ho Dead. Hawaii Officially Out of BusinessDon Ho, Hawaii's ambassador to the world, died of a heart attack in Honolulu yesterday at 76. Tears of sorrow flowed down the streets of the Hawaiian capital last night drowning at least 10 Japanese tourists. No charges have yet been filed against the Ho estate. Ironically, Don's death comes right in the middle of the family's battle against shock jock Don Imus for his slanderous statement against Don's hair challenged family when he recently referred to them as "Nappy headed Ho's." By government decree, all Hawaiian radio and television stations will be playing Don Ho's Greatest Hit, Tiny Bubbles, continuously until further notice. All flights out of Hawaii are now full.Woodyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00410209790354773553noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9003555636371305221.post-74915463400560916472007-03-05T21:39:00.000-08:002007-04-19T15:39:02.756-07:00The State of the Pool 2007Since it seems everyone in America with nothing to say now has a blog, it's my turn! I'm officially announcing that our ghoul pool has a new home: www.woodysghoulpool.blogspot.com. Please check it out. Especially now since I have loaded the 2007 picks - to be found under the link "2007 Ghoul Pool Picks." How clever. Your picks have been handicapped according to age and pre-existing medical conditions on a scale from one to three. Ones are people over 80. Twos are peeps 60 and over, but younger than 80, and threes are guys and gals under 60. Please note that anyone on the cusp is downgraded to the lower level. i.e. Charlotte Ray's 80th birthday is April 22. For our purposes, she's a one. Osama Bin Laden, born April 10, 1957 (Happy 50th O!) has a pre-existing condition of a billion dollar bounty on his head. He too gets a one.

When you look at the picks, you'll see we have some interesting predictions. LOTS of you are betting on Old First Ladies (OFL's) for your diefecta picks. Fidel and Ariel also show up as frequent ghoul pool picks. Again, both under 80 with MAJOR pre-existing conditions. My favorite diefecta choice is from Steven Boggs - Yvonne DE Carlo and Olivia DE Havilland. He's already picked up a point. You might notice that Chris Spalding has an entry that is rated -1. That's because his pick, Orianna Fallaci, is already dead. Sorry Chris.

Please review your picks to make sure I have entered them correctly and they have the right point value. You get till the end of March to lodge any protest.Woodyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00410209790354773553noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9003555636371305221.post-36585131051067994872007-03-02T09:37:00.000-08:002007-03-02T09:39:30.774-08:00Woody's Ghoul PoolWoodyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00410209790354773553noreply@blogger.com0
